Three images from a moving car. These were all taken on a single journey back from a party out in the countryside last year. I wasn't driving so I was able to drag the shutter and capture the light traces transcribed by the reflectors on the road as our headlights illuminated them. I took 8 frames I think of which these three were the best … and I thought that a reasonable shooting average! And now the song 'Night Moves' is stuck in my head … why do I do that?

They work as abstract patterns evoking a sense of the other … our minds shape them into objects we relate to … I'm interested in what you see in them … do tell! ๐
On a first glance (and early morning thoughts), I saw a glowing honeycomb in the first, a monitored heartbeat and maybe the first glimpse of light after a long time in the darkness in the second, and two rows of illuminated reindeer in the third ๐
Always love to shoot in motion, when landscapes are blurring into abstract paintings and beams of light are woven into something different altogether. I don’t now the song but would say the night moved indeed.
I’m thinking you have a healthy imagination. I like the honeycomb idea and the cardiotrace too. ๐
Wow – what a beautiful set of images. I particularly like the second one – the tension between the soft light and the five geometric shapes is fantastic. Bravo!
I’d not considered it as a tension but yes, you are right, and it is ๐
The music is a great companion to the images. They’re in sync.
Thanks. I hadn’t heard the track in years but it popped into my head fresh when I’d typed the words. Funny how our memories do that ๐
I love the middle one. makes me think of walking along the beach at night. and a certain kind of jazz.
The beach at night… I love walking beaches at night.

I enjoy this sort of experimentation. It fascinates and always has unexpected results. We do tend to attribute meaning to shapes. But my mother was an abstract expressionist painter, so I tend to see the non-representational as its own beauty. I like number two, because of the seemingly hard top shapes against the softer bottom ones: yin/yang effect. I use both my Nikon DSLR and iPhone to capture movement, especially night lights. Here are examples from my excursions during the winter holidays and nighttime lights: http://lensandpensbysally.wordpress.com/2012/12/24/abstractions-lighting-up-the-night-during-the-winter-holidays/
I went and had a look. Numbers 1&4 are my faves. Your abstract heritage shines through on these. Perhaps have a chat to the neighbour about upgrading their crystals to LED ๐
Love these captures, its always fun to play.
I like playing.
I am always a fan of moving lights … I used to try to capture these in the past, but I found it kind of difficult sometimes. But there are very abstract and cool! I thought one looked a bit light a highway and the last image, clearly looking like an open road. Nice work!
PS – I’ve never heard the song “Night Moves” … is it worth listening to? ๐
Hi and welcome Emily ๐
Thanks, I was impressed with the way the colour and clarity came out in these. It was a dark night too.
Ps Night Moves is an excellent example of cheesy 70’s pop/rock. You know, catchy and daggy both ๐
Very interesting pictures of a ship, music notes and children’s toys (or maybe a long snake with legs???)
Nice to see you back in form!!!
Long snake with legs! I like that ๐
What a fabulous collection of night moves – I want to run off into number two and see where it takes me!
Thanks Patti … number two will no doubt take you a little farther down the road ๐
Gruss
Google translate version: For a long time I looked at your first picture again. It always seemed to me every time “chaos / confusion” in the mind. Your description of “jazz” for the second photo is absolutely accurate. A spontaneous thought to be “Coming heaven / from the sky.” The third and last picture I saw a crocodile in the picture left and right hyenas.
