Meet Patrick. Patrick is an entrepreneur. Earlier this year he set up a coffee machine by one of the main cycleways running from the Inner North of Canberra (where I live) into the City … he makes very good coffee and I always stop for an espresso (that settles in the glass like tap Guinness!) if he's up and running when I'm cycling past. I recently stopped by to take some photos of him … I think this is my favourite.
Patrick called his coffee spot Sly Fox Coffee
But it's about more than the coffee … it's about a social hub … a little networking space. I've met a stack of different folks down there and stopped for a quick chat or hello. Sometimes I'm a little late and I stand at the table straddling my bicycle while I sip a delicious coffee … afterward, the ride into town just flies past as the caffeine kicks in by the time I've reached David Street.
There's often an assistant, Byron or Roley. There's a bicycle mechanic, Rex, who's there on Tuesdays and I could make lewd suggestive comments about the delights of an early morning lube but I will refrain today.
The Sly Fox is blossoming and I've noticed an increase in custom as the morning's warm. Great coffee – great vibe.
Patrick also had his girlfriend's little pug pup with him … hi name's Bob … everybody say Awwwww… 🙂

All great shots, but that pug is handsome;)
Thanks Elena … isn’t he just!
You captured Bob's exterior and a bit of the interior too.
Hehehe thanks Sally 🙂
great pics 🙂 even though it looks kinda cold and rainy… isn't is spring yet xxx
Oh it’s spring out there all right! The days have been gorgeous here lately … I prefer taking portraits on overcast days when the light is softer and no harsh and squinty shadows
xxx
An entrepreneur of a humanitarian? Coffee when and where it is needed… And yes, awwww to Bob indeed. Such soft looking ears. Which I would love to run through my fingers. There is little that is as soft and comforting as a pooches ears.
A bit of both I’m thinking Sue … and Bob’s a cutie that’s for sure 🙂
That first shot of Patrick is great; it seems to say so much about the man. Coffee – a necessary elixir 🙂
Hi Alexia and welcome … I reckon it’s my favourite of this little shoot and it certainly demonstrates much about the man … his coffee is excellent too. My cycle into work seems almost effortless and very quick after a Sly Fox espresso 🙂
The first portrait is my favourite too & Bob is adorable 🙂
Bob is totally adorable! Funny looking and I like the way his eyes appear to point in slightly different directions 🙂
wonderful portraits!
Thanks! It was a totally impromptu shoot … I happened to have my camera with me on my way to somewhere else 🙂
It is a wonderful portrait though I also really like his boyish smile in the black/white one. What I also couldn't help noticing is that it's not only about coffee. Or a very cute pug called Bob. There is some chocolate cake on the table, right there next to what I think might be a camelia flower. You didn't want to share the chocolate, huh? 😉
I just had dinner but now I want cake. And maybe a dog. I wouldn't mind a dog either. See what you've done…
Oh. Now that you mention it there is rather more than coffee happening at the Sly Fox 🙂
I will ask Patrick in the morning to save you some chocolate. I this his girlfriend is rather attached to Bob though 😉
Oh, that would be lovely. Do you think it will keep fresh for a while? not sure how soon I could be there to pick it up. Would mind some coffee either.
As for Bob, it's ok… Duesseldorf is a bit like Pug City, they are almost everywhere. Not sure what Felix would think though if I start walking around petting other people's dogs 😉 We used to make jokes here at work a few years ago, shortly after I started, about getting an office pug. Unfortunately, our boss was not very keen on the idea though we are still dogless.
I’m sure there’s well and truly enough sugar and chocolate in them to keep the preserved for quite a little while 😉
An office pug … now there’s a cute idea!
Wow, what a great place it seems to be. People are such interesting beings and it is always such a treat to see what they are up to. Thank you for the story and pictures!!
My pleasure Marialla and the coffee’s very good too 🙂
What a wonderful post and fabulous photos! Your portraits of Patrick are outstanding, especially the first one. I love your use of light and the shallow depth of field in all of your images… great work.
Thanks Martina, he’s a throughly lovely chap and handsomely photogenic to boot 🙂
It's a great mini photo essay about Patrick and his little coffee shop. I love the connecting feeling the images create. And of course the pictures of Bob are fun!
Bob’s a little star Otto! He’s by far the most popular character at The Sly Fox … thank you 🙂
Great collection of images
Thanks! 🙂
