A term I found in the Plus “Archistract” or an Architectural Abstract describes seeing a building in an abstract way … it’s something I like to try when I’m visiting a new city (or a city that’s not my city). The trick for this technique, the real trick, is to look up. These are from my walking around Sydney last weekend. Archistracts seem to work best in monochrome … which suits me at the moment because I’m on a real monochrome kick at the moment 🙂
These work beautifully in black and white, love the lines and curves not to mention the perspective.
Thanks Kathryn 🙂
I love this, seeing the “usual” in a brand new way. I’ve not purposefully sought that in my amateur photo efforts through the years, but when I do happen to discover a new view, it always becomes my favorite shot. Thank you for sharing this post.
You’re welcome. Changing the perspective always helps me see things 🙂
Although I did not know that terminology, I’m definitely a fan of Archistract. Many of my own images are converted to B & W to show architectural features. As you are, I’m enamored with the parts of the whole that make the structure what it is. Your use of monochrome helps push those features even more into the forefront. You have an eye for that element or elements that makes a viewer return and return to your images. I like the last the best. When you look up at a building, the entirety becomes something completely different.
I first heard the word ‘archistract’ over at Google+ … I’m thinking it’s not an official type term but I’m happy to adopt is as one 🙂
You’ve nailed them all, Geoff! And now I’m gonna have to remember that new word. It fits!
‘Archistract’ it’s a cool sounding word … you can practice by dropping it into conversation at least once a day to sound all arty and erudite 🙂

Thanks 🙂 It’s a little thing I know … this looking up business, but once you do … there’s lots to see 🙂
Die Wahl diese Bilder in Monochrom zu zeigen ist eine gute Entscheidung. Farbe würde nicht passen.
Google translate version: Show the images in monochrome this election is a good decision. Color would not fit.
