Another oculus picture from my coastal artist retreat from earlier this month at Ness. Here the rising sun clears the top of an exposed rock.
Looking at a scene refracted through the glass sphere makes it appear both internalised and externalised at the same time … like I’m both within and without simultaneously … it does something for me … something deep.
Do you have a special object or way of of looking that touches you deeply? You know, makes you think of things differently for a moment? That takes you beyond?
Do tell π
WOW, WHAT AN INCREDIBLE PICTURE!!!!! I OFTEN LIKE TO LOOK THROUGH A KALEIDESCOPE BUT THIS IS SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING – IT MAKES ME WANT TO GO OUT THERE AND DO SOME EXPERIMENTING OF MY OWN.. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! MARI
Thanks Mari π
Go on … go get one!
I LOVE your oculus, Geoff, and will buy one on the spot whenever I find one. HA! I really like staring at prisms, which would be the closest thing I can think of. Garden globes are also fun, which I saw of lot of when I lived in Atlanta for 25 years. Supposedly they scare aware evil spirits. π
Thank you Ginnie … go find one … show me the pictures!
I really like reflections, in water or windows. could take endless pictures of them. something about the duality of things – I’m a Gemini myself – attracts me, that there are always (at least) two sides to everything, the idea of choosing sides ~ or not, identity issues, what part is real and what part is not, does it matter, etc…
may I ask how big your oculus is? I will have to try this one day!
Ahh the duality of things … could muse for hours on that subject! Being a Gemini you can always attract yourself! ;-P
I’m an Aquarius myself … always waiting for everyone else to catch up π
My oculus is 5cm in diameter. When I posted this image to my G+ stream, someone posted a link to Amazon for people to purchase them … I got mine off eBay.
I love your oculus, it’s like a glimpse into another world and alternative reality. My macro lens often transports me when it captures the smallest details that I might otherwise not see with my own eyes (like the eyelashes of a titmouse http://dychedesigns.blogspot.com/2012/03/photo-heart-connection-february.html, or the reflection in a squirrels eye http://dychedesigns.blogspot.com/2012/02/weekend-reflections-in-eye-of-squirrel.html).
Thanks Kathryn … I love it too π
Thank you for sharing those pictures … they’re beautiful π
Love your oculus shots. A picture framed by its own, showing a small world within a larger one. Absolutly wonderful.
Thanks muellerssicht π
cool reflections!!!!!!!
Thank you π
As it happens, I am sphere inspired as well. Gazing balls that normally live in gardens accent my living room. The reflections are fascinating.
This is a lovely image. Inspired.
Thanks Elena … as it happens it’s what comes through the oculus that is the inspiring bit for me π
What I find interesting in this image and the others where you use the oculus is twofold: first, the results are captivating and open a miniature world that replicates really where we fit into the universe: tiny yet stellar, and second, the extent to which you are pushing your own edges as a photographer. Both are gifts to the viewer, Sally
Thanks! I’m very happy that they take you somewhere too. I love creating them and it makes me very glad that other people can appreciate them too π
Excellent!
Thanks Claudia π
Great poetry in thsi picture. Perfectly done!
Have a nice day.
I love this. Is it a normal glass sphere, like a paperweight? Presumably the image is upside down?
What puts me into an ‘other’ state is sunlight on surfaces, at sunset – that orange light. It doesn’t really matter what surface it touches, it just transports me elsewhere entirely.
Thank Val, it’s a glass crystal sphere about 5cm in diameter and yes, the image is upside-down. The magic hour is called that for a reason … it’s one of my favourite times of the day … everyone looks gorgeous when touched by that golden glow!
I don’t know why I struggle to be free, to stay free, your words bring me hope, strgtenh, again a truth I can hold onto. Deena Allen
