It's tending toward late and I'm thinking I'll just quickly post this coz otherwise it won't happen until tomorrow night and … and …well here I am posting late again. These pictures are the result of one of those occasions when the plan doesn't go according to plan, but rather than fret that it's not, just going with wherever you end up. Yesterday was cold here with heavy rain cells moving through every hour or so. The temperature struggled in the single figures and the wind was extra bitey and fiercely strong. I had resolved that morning to go and continue my 'Deserted and decaying shopping centres' series but while driving to my destination I missed the expressway exit and found myself heading down toward the National Arboretum instead … OK that's all right I thought … I'll head up one of the hills … might be a rainbow or something else up there … what it was up there was bloody windy and freezing … let's just say 'totally fresh' … thank goodness for leather jackets! There was a cell moving in and I stayed out long enough to get hailed upon to capture this beauty of stormlight…
and another in darker processing moodiness
and a rainbow of course π
The winter rains … they finally came … this morning the mountains were all dusted in snow (apparently) I wasn't fool enough to go up for a second helping this morning π
You did get your rainbow, and along with it some splendid beams of light.
It was all worth it in the end Sally π
Wonderful series!
Thank you Frida and welcome to Pictures with Words!
Cinematically brilliant!
It does have a touch of the cinema about it! Thanks Elena π
The hills were indeed dusted with snow yesterday morning. And very pretty with it. I stood on the soggy lawn and oohed and aahed towards the Brindabellas.
I love the beauty you captured at the Arborteum. Thank you.
The (windy, sleety, bitey, sunny, rainy) pleasure was all mine Sue π
Awesome !! what lens were you using?
Hi Helen, thanks! I was using my 24-70mm f/2.8 for these … I had other lenses with me but I left them in the car out of the bluster π
I’m just thinking that winter in Australia doe’t look like winter in Europe. Everything still seems so green and the light is also different. My favourite is the middle one, I like dark and moody. And the light falling through the thickest clouds.
This time, I’m saying zilch about the weather here. You will see soon enough π
You are quite right … winter in Australia is nothing like winter over your way … we get snow higher up in the mountains but it’s rare in the city. Remember too that this is a highly modified landscape and the autumn rains have left a green flush of grasses … it’s normally quite a browny gold colour. The light falling through the sleet is my favourite bit π
Great landscape and weather collection. Strange to see weather like we have in autumn. Europe is boiling in the moment.
Thanks for dropping by and saying hello … I appreciate it π
beautiful shots. and I do remember the smell of snow in Canbera π
It’s a crisp, clean smell … it’s been in the air this week π
oh gorgeous, amazing, the beauty and wonder of nature!
The wonder of it all never ceases to amaze me either π
WOW, TALK ABOUT BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! THANK YOU!
I would have been in heaven with such rains and skies and weather, Geoff. Let's just say that even though I was born in Western Hemispeher June, I am a winter baby at heart! π
This would have seemed a mild and slow breezy day to you then I suspect Ginnie π
utterly gorogeus – totally worth the cold in my opinion, especially since I wasn't the one out in it π
Oh look I think it was totally worth it too … just a bit cold … did I mention it was cold?
i love the atmosphere. wonderful!
Thank you … did I mention it was cold? π
there needs to be some inconvenience for a perfect picture π
A ‘no pain, no gain’ kinda thing? π
exactly π the english proverb sounds much better than the german one (who wants to be beautiful needs to suffer) -.-
Yeah … something to do with the great rhyming! π
Nothing like a decent winter for a good show of weather, the light through the mists and clouds, gorgeous!
The light was just spectacular that day … all shifting and translucent … totally gorgeous π
