Imagine standing on a planet much colder than this one is now and looking out over a sea of liquid methane …
Shores of a Methane Sea … the crunch of crystalline accretions under your boot
… the way the liquid moves and sighs – not like water
but thinner and with crackle…
About the picture: playing around with the B+W ND110E 10 stop neutral density filter.
You make it very easy to imagine, Geoff. This is exquisite.
Thanks Ginnie 🙂
Extraordinary photography and commentary. I am fascinated by the results of your 10 stop neutral density filter… I have to agree with Ginnie, it is exquisite!
Thank you Doug. The ND110 is something fun to play with, focus can be an issue when shooting anything close (for foreground say) as it gets really dark through the viewfinder! On a bright sunny day your eyes do adjust and you can compose through the finder with the filter attached. Exposing your eyes back to the brightness can be a bit blinding so watch for this when standing on clifftops or wave platforms 😉
Amazing shot. Love the foggy water.
I’m very fascinated of this kind of photo, transform the water in something that not seems water!! a splendid result for a enchanting photo
Hi, I use a B&W ND110 10-stop filter for these photos … they work especially well for water and cloudscapes.
Yes sure, filters are exceptional for this kind of picture, they create a surreal atmosphere. Personally I’m practicing with a Hitech pro stop 10 to slide, but I still have to reach a good level before publishing my first picture of this kind, but I have to say that the results are very fascinated.
I take this opportunity to thank you for your visit and your comments on QuadrCromia, when you want to return, you are welcome, Geoffrey!!
Nice day!
Fabrizio, you know the business I see! One thing I have found with my 10 stop is that I find myself ‘waiting’ a lot for the ‘right’ conditions or location … the right clouds at the right speed or when I’m down at the coast with plenty of moving water and the like with the result that I don’t use the filter much at all!
You might like my most recent post featuring 12 minute exposure of a seascape under the recent Super Moon. No filters used here but the effect is very similar.
Nice day to you too and I’ll back to QuadrCromia this afternoon 🙂
